Senators introduce legislation to counter foreign acquisition of agricultural land

Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), members of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, introduced legislation to overhaul the current system that allows for foreign acquisition of agricultural land, which they say threatens American food security and national security.
In a release announcing the bill, they note the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that foreign ownership and investment in U.S. agricultural and has nearly doubled in the last decade.
